How to connect Cline to Apily

Cline is configured like any OpenAI-compatible provider: Apily's base URL, a key and a model ID. Everything is set in the extension panel.

Tool
Cline OpenAI-compatible
Base URL
https://apily.pro/v1
Key
apily_your-api-key
Provider
OpenAI Compatible (extension panel)

Requirements

  • VS Code (or a compatible editor) with Cline installed from the Marketplace.
  • An Apily API key from your account at apily.pro.

Configuration

  1. Open the Cline extension panel and go to provider settings.
  2. Pick OpenAI Compatible from the provider list.
  3. Base URL: https://apily.pro/v1
  4. API Key: apily_your-api-key
  5. Model ID: gpt-5.6-sol (or any other model from the Models page in your Apily account), then save.
  6. Send your first message in the Cline chat. If it went through, usage appears in your Apily account.

Extension settings live in the VS Code profile, so the steps are the same on Windows, macOS and Linux. If you use several VS Code profiles, set the key in each of them.

Switching models

The model is the Model ID field in provider settings; the base URL and key stay the same. Any catalog model works — Cline sends standard /v1/chat/completions requests, and Apily converts the whole catalog to that protocol.

Common errors and how to fix them

SymptomCauseFix
401 Invalid API keyKey copied with stray spaces, truncated, or revoked.Copy the key whole from the API page in your Apily account, the apily_ prefix included.
404 Not foundBase URL missing /v1.Base URL: https://apily.pro/v1 — every request must land on a path Apily serves (/chat/completions, /responses, /models, …).
503 Model temporarily unavailableThe model exists, but no upstream provider is reachable right now.Retry in a moment — it usually recovers within a minute. Switch models if it keeps happening.
402 Insufficient balanceYour token balance can't cover the request's estimated cost.Top up your balance on the Billing page in your Apily account.
