How to connect Cursor to Apily

Cursor can override the OpenAI base URL it sends model requests to. That is enough to route the editor through Apily — all configured in the UI, no files to edit.

Some Cursor features are not redirectable. Chat and model requests use the custom base URL; certain features run through Cursor's own backend and ignore the override. Custom providers in Cursor come with those limitations.

Requirements

Windows 10/11, macOS 12+ or a modern 64-bit Linux.
The Cursor desktop build installed and signed in — the model settings section is unavailable otherwise.
Outbound HTTPS access to apily.pro and an Apily API key.

Configuration

Open Settings → Models in Cursor.
In the OpenAI section, enable Override OpenAI Base URL and set it to https://apily.pro/v1.
Paste apily_your-api-key into the API key field.
Add the model to the list manually — take the exact ID from the Models page in your Apily account, e.g. gpt-5.6-sol.
Verify the key and save. Cursor stores these settings in its application profile, so the steps are identical on Windows, macOS and Linux.

Your first request

Confirm the key and model with one curl call, then open a project and send any message in the editor chat:

Switching models

The model is the Model ID in the provider settings; the base URL and key stay the same when you switch. Examples from the Apily catalog:

Common errors and how to fix them

Symptom	Cause	Fix
`401 Invalid API key`	Key copied with stray spaces, truncated, or revoked.	Copy the key whole from the API page in your Apily account, the `apily_` prefix included.
Model not found in the list	The ID was typed manually with a typo.	Copy the exact ID from the Models page in your Apily account.
`404 Not found`	Base URL without `/v1`.	Base URL: `https://apily.pro/v1` — every request must land on a path Apily serves (`/chat/completions`, `/responses`, `/models`, …).
Chat works but some features don't	Those features run on Cursor's own backend.	Expected limitation of custom providers; not an Apily issue.
